Day 25

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. My favorite day in December is the 26th. I know, that sounds grumpy and mean, like one day a spirit wearing chains will visit me in my bed chamber. I swear I love Christmas! I just don't love the stress, the gift competition, the commercialization and's aggravating and I get wrapped up in it despite my lofty goals to do otherwise.

What would happen if one year I didn't send out Christmas cards? What would happen if everyone in my family agreed to give gifts to only the kids, and only one present each? Even cutting down on Christmas decorations sounds sacrilege. Maybe next year--which is what I say every year. I like what Sr. Theresa Aletheia Noble had to say on the subject of consumerism and Christmas, but it's more of a starting point. Good thing I have an entire year to think about how we'll do things next year.

  1. I know what you mean. I'm not a huge fan of all the chaos of Christmas, and enjoy taking the 26th to relax, reflect, and chow down on leftovers. :-)

Merry Christmas, and Happy December 26th!

  2. This is why I wish we celebrated Boxing Day in America. I think he 26th needs to be protected as a do-nothing-day holiday that is celebrated by staying in our pajamas, eating leftovers, and watching some sort of marathon on TV. Nobody should have to go back to work the day after Christmas.
